Arcadia Dragnet, Year 1, Issue 8

Hello readers, welcome back to Arcadia Dragnet. Last week I watched the Sukeban Deka OVA purely because someone I follow on Twitter mentioned Shinji Wada's name and I'm glad I did, it's a narratively-crazy, action-packed, campy and emotionally-sincere time. Unfortunately it, like many great 80s and 90s OVAs, adapts a very small part of a very long story, and now I will spend the rest of my life wishing that a full-length adaptation was made in this style! Ah well, this is the kind of suffering you become accustomed to when delving into older obscure anime.

Oh for those of you who are interested in independent Japanese animation, I would strongly recommend you check out the animator Tarafu Otani. I found out about him via this tweet from Twitter user animegolem, his material is available on Vimeo and YouTube, I especially enjoyed his work on the music video Harmonia.

Contemporary Anime- Unlicensed

This week, BuriBuri released episode 19 of Super Shiro, Some-Stuffs released episode 14 of Pokemon 2019, Mezashite released episode 20 of Aikatsu on Parade Impatience released episode 7 of Breakers, MoyaiSubs released episodes 82 and 83 of Kiratto Pri-chan, Hoshi-no-Yume FS released episode 46 of Beyblade Burst GT, Mutsurini-Translations released episode 8 of Natsunagu!, an anon released subs for episode 7 of Dorohedoro, and episode 4 of Healin' Good♡Precure received the usual anon subs as well as fansubs done by a new group named Serenae.

Hentatsu TV episodes 5-8 have now been subbed by anons on 4chan. SNSbu fansubbed last year's Prisma Illya: Prisma Phantasm OVA. Collectr completed FFFansubs' work on Petit Gargantia.

Contemporary Anime- Licensed

Well, this was a very standard week. Commie Subs released Chihayafuru Season 3 episodes 19 and 20, Ace of the Diamond Act II episode 47, and Haikyuu! To The Top episode 7. Asenshi released Heya Camp episode 7, MapleClub released episode 4 of Bofuri, GoodJobMedia released episode 7 of Eizouken, Asakura released episodes 6 and 7 of Isekai Quartet season 2, tenshisubs released episode 19 of Nanatsu no Taizai- Kamigami no Gekirin while Chyuu released episode 16 of the same, and Judas released episode 7 of Ishuzoku Reviewers.

Classic Anime

For ongoing projects, Inka-Subs released episode 12 of Chou Kousoku Galvion, SquareSubs released episode 19 of Bakusou Kyoudai Let's & Go!! WGP, GANGO and South Wind Subs released episode 6 of Wandering Girl Nell, GANGO released episode 18 of Madou King Granzort, ToranSubs released episode 41 of Deltora Quest, and Johnny-englishsubs released episode 11 of UFO Robot Grendizer. OldCastle released fansubs for the obscure OVA Noroi no One Piece. Wisperer released episodes 8 and 9 of Princess Sara, and AnimeShinigami released episodes 43 and 44 of Saikyo Robo Daioja.

A few fansub groups released revised fansubs with small fixes: OldCastle released a batch for Paris no Isabelle, Kiteseekers and Licca Fansubs released a batch for Idol Densetsu Eriko, and peachflavored released a greatly-improved version of Panzer Dragoon.

Other

SakuraCircle again has been the main source for contemporary hentai, releasing Overflow episode 8 and Meltys Quest episode 1. The first episode of classic 80s hentai OVA Aoi Taiken was released by either an anonymous group or a group named WIP, I'm not sure.

For donghua, VersusSubs released episode 2 of Wu Liuqi Zhi Zui Qiang Fa Xing Shi (Scissor Seven), GuodongSubs released episode 9 and 10 of Hu Yao Xiao Hong Niang (Fox Spirit Matchmaker) Season 8, and MellowJunky released episode 3 of Qiang Sheng Ji (Age of Gunslingers) season 3. Many new episodes of many donghua were released on AnimeXim but I am not sure who is responsible for fansubbing them, for now I will direct you to visit there if you are interested in watching more donghua but be aware that there are many ads!

Fansub Classifieds

Welcome to the inaugural edition of Fansub Classifieds, a new feature section of this blog where fansub groups' postings for new members will be collected and promoted. This section is still in development and any additional information or suggestions for improvement would be very appreciated!


Specter Subs recently posted a Tweet advertising for more members. This group is looking for experienced fansubbers and people who can work with vector graphics. The group specializes in working on the Yo-kai Watch anime. Please fill out this Member Application if you are interested.

South Wind Subs has been advertising for members for a long time, this group focuses on older anime. More information on the group and the roles that can be filled is available here. Please contact JohnnyChuck on MAL if you're interested in helping out.

Welcome back to Arcadia Dragnet, hope you all got through the Valentine's Day season in one piece. This week I picked up Mahou no Idol Pastel Yumi, I'm absolutely adoring its picture-book-like backgrounds and comfy low-stakes stories.

I've decided to discontinue the Featured Fansubs section, I do not think it served any purpose that is not already covered adequately by the other sections of this blog. If you think this is a mistake or if you have another idea about what to put here, please feel free to leave a comment!

Contemporary Anime- Unlicensed

Fansubbers gave a lot of attention to newer anime this week. First, let's go over the regular releases: BuriBuri released episode 18 of Super Shiro, Some-Stuffs released episode 13 of Pokemon 2019 and episode 2 of Pokemon: Twilight Wings, Impatience released episode 6 of Breakers, an anon released subs for episode 6 of Dorohedoro, another anon released subs for episode 3 of Healin' Good♡Precure, MoyaiSubs released episodes 80 and 81 of Kiratto Pri-chan, Mezashite released episodes 18 and 19 of Aikatsu on Parade, Hoshi-no-Yume FS released episode 45 of Beyblade Burst GT, Mutsurini-Translations released episode 7 of Natsunagu!, tenshisubs released episode 18 of Nanatsu no Taizai- Kamigami no Gekirin and Chyuu released episode 15. SpecterSubs continued their work on the Youkai Watch franchise, releasing episode 37 of Youkai Watch Shadowside and the first episode of the newest show, Youkai Gakuen N to nu Souguu. Finally, Mushin released fansubs for BanG Dream! Film Live, but please be aware that Mushin's releases are notoriously awful so this release should only be watched by the most content-starved person.

Contemporary Anime- Licensed

Fansubs for Kaijuu no Kodomo have started to surface, but as of yet I have not been able to find any that are not awkwardly-phrased or full of errors. Hopefully this situation improves last week, the movie looks gorgeous and I am quite excited to watch it.

For many fansub groups, things progressed as usual. Commie Subs released Chihayafuru Season 3 episode 18, Ace of the Diamond Act II episode 46, and Haikyuu! To The Top episode 6. Asenshi released Heya Camp episode 6, MapleClub released episode 3 of Bofuri,  Kaleido-subs and μtw released episode 5 of Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demonic Front Babylonia, Inu released episode 5 of Kyokou Suiri, Asakura released episode 5 of Isekai Quartet season 2, and Doki Fansubs released episodes 6 and 7 of Madoka Magica: Magia Record. Judas again collaborated with with Cannongerbil of CGTranslations to release episode 6 of Ishuzoku Reviewers.

Unfortunately this marks the second week without a release from GoodJobMedia. This is not out of the ordinary, however- this group is well-known for putting a lot of effort into their typesetting, and this often leads to their projects progressing at a much slower rate than other groups'. I personally am happy to wait for their future releases of Eizouken, and I still hope they get back to Senryuu Shoujo and Virtual-san wa Miteiru eventually.

Classic Anime

This week, OldCastle completed their fansubs for Paris no Isabelle, ParadiseHamsubs finished Jewelpet Sunshine, and Kiteseekers and Licca Fansubs completed their work on Idol Densetsu Eriko. Long-running fansub projects require hundreds of cumulative hours of effort from many people and months (sometimes even years) of commitment to see through, it's always good to see a project like this be completed. Thank you so much to the teams involved in making these three anime available to English-speaking audiences, it will be exciting to see what they do next.


In terms of ongoing projects, NoraInuG released Moeru! Oniisan episode 16, ToranSubs released episodes 39 and 40 of Deltora Quest, and Kindaichi Lovers released episode 140 of Kindaichi Case Files, GutsySubs released episode 18 of The Gutsy Frog, MaruChanSubs released episode 66 of Chibi Maruko-chan, and GANGO and South Wind Subs released episode 5 of Wandering Girl Nell. Inka-Subs released revised versions of the first 10 episodes of Chou Kousoku Galvion. SubsDeLaRosa released episode 24 of Red Baron and AnimeShinigami released episodes 41 and 42 of Saikyo Robo Daioja, but please be aware that these two groups' fansubs are grammatically poor and seem to be full of errors.
 
Wisperer released episodes 4, 5, 6, and 7 of Princess Sara this week. This is an edited version of Licca Fansubs' subtitles using a higher-quality video source. YZS Softsubs released their improved fansubs for Detective Conan episodes 166, 167 and 168, and ParadiseHamsubs released revamped subs for Hamtaro episode 296. LCE released subs for the Ashita no Joe Movie 1, based on the Diskotek release.

Other

In terms of hentai releases, SakuraCircle released Overflow episode 7 and Hime-sama Love Life! episode 3, and lamonae released episode 32 of the classic 80s series Cream Lemon.

My understanding of donghua fansubs has improved a little, now I know enough to thank AnimeXim for releasing episode 91 of Douluo Dalu (Soul Land), episode 8 of Xian Wang de Richang Shenghuo (The Daily Life of the Immortal King), and episode 6 of Yao Jing Zhong Zhi Shou Ce (Demon Spirit Seed Manual). Meanwhile, MellowJunky continued working on Qiang Sheng Ji (Age of Gunslingers) season 3, releasing the first 2 episodes. Finally, VersusSubs released episode 1 of Wu Liuqi Zhi Zui Qiang Fa Xing Shi (Scissor Seven)- this is the sequel series to one of my favourite donghua ever, please give this one a look! All 10 episodes were subbed earlier in the week by Reddit user runwwwww, their work is super appreciated but these subs are hardsubbed and I prefer to wait for VersusSubs to release their softsubbed version.

Arcadia Dragnet, Year 1, Issue 6

Hello and welcome back to Arcadia Dragnet. Hope you've all had a pleasant week, mine was very exciting and busy! In my spare time I ended up watching XiaoLv He XiaoLan (Beryl and Sapphire), an excellent rom-com donghua that I'd easily recommend to anyone. Thank you GuodongSubs for fansubbing it! I also recently picked up Inka-Subs's release of Panzer World Galient, I'm 5 episodes in and it's been a blast so far.

This week, my Featured Fansubs are for Ore-sama Kingdom, a little-known shoujo OVA series that's getting fansubbed by my friends at Stardust Fansubs. I love the visual energy of this show, its plot and subject matter are nothing special really but the animations and facial reactions elevate its otherwise mundane situations into super hilarious and enjoyable moments. The first 4 episodes are currently out and I'm excited to watch more!

Contemporary Anime- Unlicensed

Thanks to akemilena, Kuutei Dragons is now completely available with English subtitles! Episodes 10-12 were released this week. It was also good to see Nyaa user fenson upload a complete collection of the Kemurikusa shorts from 2012, 2018 and 2019, along with the Donbei ad. Subtitles for these shorts have been available for a few months but only in obscure places. LCE also released their own version of the Kemurikusa x Donbei ad.

As usual, BuriBuri released episode 17 of Super Shiro, Some-Stuffs released episode 12 of Pokemon 2019, Impatience released episode 5 of Breakers, an anon released subs for episode 5 of Dorohedoro, another anon released subs for episode 2 of Healin' Good♡Precure, MoyaiSubs released episode 79 of Kiratto Pri-chan, tenshisubs released episode 17 of Nanatsu no Taizai- Kamigami no Gekirin, and Hoshi-no-Yume FS released episode 44 of Beyblade Burst GT. Also, Doremi Fansubs released Ojamajo Doremi Comedy Theatre episodes 21 and 22. Mutsurini-Translations is again the only group releasing current fansubs for Natsunagu!.

Contemporary Anime- Licensed

At the beginning of the week, Promare Blu-Rays were released and within hours the movie was available online. There are currently at least 9 different fansub releases of Promare, each based to a different extent on the official subtitles that were released in theatres. If you need some help sorting through all the releases, Reddit user PromareDayOne has been at the centre of the situation and their posts are a useful starting point. I recommend Beatrice-Raws' release, and if you are looking for the prequel shorts Galo-hen and Lio-hen I recommend checking out Leeson's releases of them.

Now that official subtitles are being made available for Ishuzoku Reviewers again, things have settled down. A group called ExFuni appeared and released episodes 4 and 5, but they have stated they will not be continuing. Judas is continuing to work with Cannongerbil of CGTranslations to fansub the show, now using the official subs as a base.

Commie Subs released Chihayafuru Season 3 episode 17, Ace of the Diamond Act II episode 45, and Haikyuu! To The Top episode 5. Asenshi released Heya Camp episode 5, MapleClub released episode 2 of Bofuri, DameDesuYo released episodes 4-6 of the ReZero Director's Cut, and Kaleido-subs and μtw released episode 4 of Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demonic Front Babylonia. Finally, YameteTomete completed their fansubs for Symphogear XV, releasing episode 13.

Classic Anime

This week, BuriBuri released Crayon Shin-chan episode 32, NoraInuG released Moeru! Oniisan episode 15, STE-Subs released Rockman.EXE episode 19, LonelyChaser Fansubs released Choriki Robo Galatt episode 2, Stardust Fansubs released Ore-sama Kingdom episodes 3 and 4, MovingLines released Chocolat no Mahou episode 11, and KinnikuBusters released Jungle King Tar-chan episode 7. ParadiseHamsubs released Jewelpet Sunshine episode 51, only 1 episode is left! A Nyaa user named Wisperer has begun uploading high-quality episodes of Princess Sara using Licca Fansubs' work as a base- the first 3 episodes have been released so far. Finally, Orphan Fansubs released the movie Senya Ichiya Monogatari for the third and, hopefully, last time (as always, collectr's accompanying blog post is both informative and a fun read!).

AnimeShinigami recently competed their fansubs for GR: Giant Robo. This group is a primarily-Italian fansub group, unfortunately their subs are exceptionally poor so I can't really recommend their work, but they are the only source for the shows they sub. Their work on Saikyo Robo Daioja is ongoing- episodes 39 and 40 released this week.

Other

This was a standard week for hentai releases. SakuraCircle released Overflow episode 6, Chii-chan Kaihatsu Nikki episode 2, Lovely episode 2, Sansha Mendan: Rensa Suru Chijoku Choukyou no Gakuen episode 4, and Youma Shoukan e Youkoko. Puff then used SakuraCircle's subs to release a higher-quality version of Chii-chan Kaihatsu Nikki episode 2.


For donghua, this week sacredgold released Douluo Dalu (Soul Land) episode 90 and MellowJunky machine-translated the 2nd Qiang Sheng Ji (Age of Gunslingers) compilation movie.

Arcadia Dragnet, Year 1, Issue 5

Happy February! One month and 5 issues in, Arcadia Dragnet is now the longest-lasting blog project I have ever worked on (and no, I will never link to any of my embarrassingly-poor previous attempts). Thank you to everyone who's followed along, there is lots more to come!

For this week's Featured Fansubs, I want to discuss the Ishuzoku Reviewers situation. Funimation's decision to stop licensing this anime after episode 3 was possibly the biggest controversy in English-speaking anime fandom last month, and controversies have a tendency to drive fans to act. Episode 4 has currently been subbed by two groups, RottenSub and Judas, and in my opinion Judas' subs are superior in every way. This is, to my knowledge, the first time Judas has released an original translation for a show; the translation is thanks to Cannongerbil of CGTranslations. Hopefully Judas and Cannongerbil will continue collaborating to make this show available to English anime fans.

This February the newest show in the Precure franchise, Healin' Good♡Precure, began airing, and as usual there are anonymous fansubs available. Lumpstud continued their work on 2017's The Snack World, releasing episode 12. GoodJobMedia released fansubs for the PA Works-produced ad series Koitabi: True Tours Nanto, while Saizen Fansubs released subs for the Gaikotsu Shotenin Honda-san OVA.

Strike The Blood: Kieta Seisou-hen has been subbed by a Nyaa user named Escl, but these subs are in a very dubious state. Similarly, subs for the 4th One Punch Man 2nd Season OVA were uploaded by a user named PopeStumpy, but both their quality and their origin are suspect. Finally, for those who cannot wait to watch new episodes of Natsunagu! you can visit Mutsurini-Translations; this group also fansubs Overflow and Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki 2nd Season. The translations are... decent, but spelling and grammar errors are frequent so I would still recommend other groups / official subs over them.

YameteTomete released episode 3 of Madoka Magica: Magia Record and Doki Fansubs released episode 5 of the same.

Classic Anime

Two long-lasting fansub projects are nearing their end: OldCastle released Paris no Isabelle episode 12, leaving only 1 episode remaining, and ParadiseHamsubs released Jewelpet Sunshine episode 50, leaving only 2 episodes remaining. ParadiseHamsubs also revamped their own subtitles for Hamtaro episode 271. BuriBuri released Crayon Shin-chan episode 31, NoraInuG released Moeru! Oniisan episode 14, STE-Subs released episode 18 of Rockman.EXE, SquareSubs released episode 18 of Bakusou Kyoudai Let's & Go!! WGP, The Skaro Hunting Society released their subs for episode 62 of Pokemon 1997, and Operation: Hoshi no Kaabii Fansubs released episode 88 of Hoshi no Kirby.

Hentai

SakuraCircle had another impressive week, releasing Overflow episode 5, Niplheim no Karyuudo: Branded Azel episode 2, Hitozuma, Mitsu to Niku episode 2, Enjo Kouhai episode 1, and Tonari no Ie no Annete-san The Animation. Puff released a higher-quality version of Chii-chan Kaihatsu Nikki episode 1, building off of SakuraCircle's subs.

Donghua

This week sacredgold's release of Douluo Dalu (Soul Land) episode 89 came out. A user named MellowJunky machine-translated the first compilation movie of Qiang Sheng Ji (Age of Gunslingers), please be aware that the translation is exceptionally poor.
