Year 1 Issue 15

Arcadia Dragnet, Year 1, Issue 15

  April 8 - 14, 2020

Welcome back to Arcadia Dragnet! My back hurts! Anyway, let's talk fansubs.

Contemporary Anime- Unlicensed

This week, BuriBuri released episodes 25 and 26 of Super Shiro, Hoshi-no-Yume FS released episode 3 of Beyblade Burst Sparking, Some-Stuffs released episode 21 of Pokemon 2019, MoyaiSubs released episode 89 of Kiratto Pri-chan, an anon subbed episode 2 of Tomica Kizuna Earth Granner, Asenshi released episode 3 of Brand New Animal, and episode 11 of Healin' Good♡Precure was subbed by Serenae and the usual anon.

Zorori-Project fansubbed the first episode of the new Kaiketsu Zorori anime, Motto! Majimeni Fumajime Kaiketsu Zorori. SMC-Subs, after a 5-month hiatus, released episodes 24 and 25 of Kiratto Pri-chan. The first two Yesterday wo Utatte Extra episodes have been fansubbed by Reddit user MisterShaggy_, and the second was also subbed by an anon on Nyaa.

The movie Hello World, recently released on DVD and Blu-Ray, was fansubbed by Lonely Hikikomori. Some-Stuffs, as promised, fansubbed At A Confessional from the Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan series.

PendekarSubs have made English subs for the first 2 episodes of Strike the Blood IV. This is a very poor sub group and these fansubs have been reported to be very inaccurate, please be aware of this before downloading. Finally, animotvslash is apparently the first fansub group to sub Drifters: The Outlandish Knight, which is unfortunate because I remind you, animotvslash is a very bad fansub group! Hopefully someone else comes along to give this OVA some decent subs.

Year 1 Issue 14

Arcadia Dragnet, Year 1, Issue 14

  April 1 - 7, 2020

Welcome back to Arcadia Dragnet, are you all finding ways to keep well? I've been doing pretty well myself, things are a bit stressful but I'm fine. I finally watched Rose of Versailles this year, it's every bit as excellent as people have been saying for years! (It also tangentially got me hooked on the French Republican Calendar which by the way is an incredible calendar!) I also watched Demon City Shinjuku, Higepiyo, Megane na Kanojo, eX-Driver, Golgo 13 1983 and Queen Bee, and the Akuma-kun movie, and a couple days ago I picked up Motto Ojamajo Doremi... it's so good! Incredible character writing!

Anime has been a really strong coping mechanism for me, I've always found comfort in thinking about these cartoons instead of spending brain power considering the real-life things that stress me out. Fansubbing is also a passion for me, and I'll be revealing more about what I've been up to later. Anyway, on to the list!

Contemporary Anime- Unlicensed

A new anime season always brings with it new shows that aren't being officially subtitled, but fortunately fansubbers are often there to remedy the situation! Hoshi-no-Yume FS, fresh off finishing their subs for Beyblade Burst GT, released episodes 1 and 2 of Beyblade Burst Sparking, and Mezashite continued their commitment to Aikatsu with episode 1 of the Aikatsu on Parade ONA series. MoyaiSubs stepped in to provide subs for episode 1 of Mewlkedreamy, which was also subbed by a new fansubber Lucomorya. an anon from /m/ subbed episode 1 of Tomica Kizuna Earth Granner, Neo Ark Cradle user RedKaZero subbed episode 1 of Yugioh SEVENS, and the YouTube channel Mi2 subbed episode 1 of Gal-gaku: Hijiri Girls Square Gakuin.

In more regular news, Some-Stuffs released episode 20 of Pokemon 2019, MoyaiSubs released episode 88 of Kiratto Pri-chan, Doremi Fansubs released episode 26 of Ojamajo Doremi Comedy Theatre, Lumpstud released episode 14 of The Snack World, and episode 10 of Healin' Good♡Precure was subbed by Serenae and the usual anon. A new group named hoshiboshi-e released fansubs for episodes 3 and 4 of Brand New Animal, extensively editing AnimacitySubs's work from a couple weeks ago.

Two new OVAs in the Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan series came out and JoJo's Colored Adventure quickly put together subs for them. Some-Stuffs plan to soon fansub them themselves, but this week they released a slightly improved version of their subs for Millionaire Village, now with video from the BDs.

The Re:Zero- Frozen Bonds OVA was released, and there are fansubs available! Currently all available subs seem to be based on SNUser's release. Finally, wildfangboss (the new alias of scanslator Ichido Reichan) released a subbed version of the Sumikko Gurashi movie.

Contemporary Anime- Licensed

This week GoodJobMedia was incredibly productive, releasing subs for episode 8 of Senryuu Shoujo, episode 9 of Toaru Kagaku no Railgun T, the first Ascendance of a Bookworm OVA and episode 1 of Ascendance of a Bookworm season 2Asenshi released episode 12 of Heya Camp, Judas released episode 12 of Ishuzoku Reviewers, Kaleido-subs and μtw released episode 8 of Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demonic Front Babylonia, and Doki Fansubs released episode 13 of Madoka Magica: Magia Record while YameteTomete subbed episode 6.

Asakura put out a batch release of their work on Isekai Quartet season 2, including some touch-ups to their earlier subs. SNSbu released their own version of Houkago no Pleiades. GenmCorp released episode 1 of Initial D 5th Stage, but they do not plan to continue fansubbing the show.

Wisperer released episodes 17 - 28 of Princess Sara, and shiteatersubs put out a batch release of Akira Toriyama's Manga Theater OVA & Movie Collection, including improved subtitles for Go! Go! Ackman and Savings Warrior Cashman.

April Fools lasts for 2 days in the fansubbing world, and while some of the fun releases were discussed last week, the biggest gags will be covered here! Some-Stuffs attempted to confuse their fans by releasing episode 20 of Pokemon (1997), while a group going simply as duwang released joke subs for the 10th episode of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 4, transcribing lines from the infamous "Duwang" translation of the manga. ChingKittyCat posted an "English-subbed" episode 100 of Hoshi no Kirby that instead "translates" Kirby's sounds as existential crises and the words spoken by other characters as a series of "poyo"s. Finally, a colossal collaboration of 14 fansub groups released subs for Tenkuu Danzai Skelter Heaven, including one set of sincere and polished subs and one joke set meant to emulate the style and jank of older fansubs.

Hentai and Donghua

This week, SakuraCircle released episode 2 of Shikijou Kyoudan, episode 1 of Kyonyuu Princess Saimin, episode 1 of Ore no Yubi de Midarero, and both episodes of Inmou. AsperaCircle (some indulgent self-promo)

While in the future I'll have more to say here in a more formalized way, today I'd like to use this section to talk a little bit more about what I've been up to lately:

As I've mentioned in the past, I myself as a fansubber! Specifically I'm an editor, I look at translated scripts and check them for mistakes (spelling/punctuation/spacing), awkward phrasings, tone, proper line length, etc. I am currently a member of 7 groups including shiteatersubs: their release this week of Chikkun Takkun episode 11 was partly edited by me!

I also run my own fansub group, AsperaCircle! My group focuses on obscure, shorter projects, basically anything I or my friends run across that we are interested in. This week AsperaCircle put out releases for 2 short anime from the early 2010s- Usagi no Mofy and Wake Up, Tamala. You can find torrent links for them here and here.

Fansubbing is my favourite hobby and it's such a joy to share it with others!

And that wraps up this week's Arcadia Dragnet. Stay safe, keep well, and best wishes.

Year 1 Issue 13

Arcadia Dragnet, Year 1, Issue 13

  March 25 - 31, 2020

Welcome back to Arcadia Dragnet, everyone, hope all is well. Canada is now in its third week of enforced social distancing, I've had more free time than my brain can handle and honestly I'm starting to feel a little worn out! Fortunately this has afforded me a lot of time to check out the anime in my backlog- Birdy the Mighty Decode, Mahoutsukai Tai, Wolf's Rain, Mighty Space Miners, Hells, and Sirius no Densetsu are among the titles I completed.

No, there will not be any April Fools shenanigans this year, I'm too tired to come up with anything funny.

Contemporary Anime- Unlicensed
